Pirates@Home is undergoing a server software upgrade.
Check back later to see if we are still beached.

The upgrade is still in progress.
It has been a long time since the last upgrade, so there are a lot of barnacles that need to be removed.
Some of them come off easily, some of them don't.
All of them require a certain attention to detail to remove them properly.
Smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

Thanks for the heads up for the crew of this jollyboat, Cap'n.

It was a good and promising announcement!

As the ship is now back on water, I've noticed it doesn't swim well. Possibly as my browsers' prefs include Slovak (SK) and Czech (CZ) languages, the page was displayed partially translated to Czech. I've initially found the translated texts broken. The page's encoding was set to "Mid-European (Win-1250)". Forcing the browser to use "UTF-8" corrected the translated tests.

After changing the page translation to English, the page was again displayed with the broken Czech translation. Switching directly to Czech had the same effect - the selection got ignored.

No, it is not that simple. The page is somehow displayed combined with previous and even previous language selection - a mix of English and two other languages. Just the UTF-8 had to be forced, otherwise the translated texts are broken.

Checked on both Chrome and IE-9.

And, Capt'n, thanks for the new "ship finish and colors"!

(Also the large "tooltip" showing further user's properties in a forum thread displays somehow obscured.)

There is a lot still not right here, but it's working well enough that we can use the forums, and I'll keep working to get each barnacle off the hull, as it were. Feel free to use this thread to note problems and to make suggestions, as has already been done.

I am not sure all the database changes have been applied. One we will test is to change the character set used to UTF-8, which may have an effect on the problem reported by Pepo.

The new news system (where the news is also a forum thread) has not yet been configured.

The Pirates Glossary was working for me earlier, but now it doesn't recognize me, so that will also need some work. Once that is fixed we can create a wiki page to list all the things that are broken or need configuration.

One thing that does seem to work is the Preview before Post feature. But I would like to have the Preview and Post reply buttons more visible.

The site wanted nothing to do with my old password. I could only log in using the "forgot password" temp 24 hour link and change my password.

I don't actually see much difference - the website does, however, load much faster now. I seem to recall a period of time in which things such as the Mechanical Turk were incredibly slow. So, if that was indeed on you, thanks for taking care of it!

Looking forward to possibly having more work around here soon - is that reasonable?
