The Pirate@Home server crashed late on Thursday, August 11, and the problem was traced to complete failure of one of the disk drives. Fortunately, it was the drive which contained the operating system, but the other drive which contained the data for the site was still functioning. (In any case, there were fairly recent backups.)

Rather than simply replacing the drive, I took the opportunity to upgrade the server hardware. But don't get your hopes up. The "new" server is actually an old leftover machine someone gave me. On the other hand, it's better than what we had; The processor is more than twice as fast, and it has more memory. After all, the previous server was also an old leftover machine that I got when our first mission was completed, and that was over 6 years ago.

So I guess the best one can say is that the old scow is still an old scow, but now not as much of an old scow as it was, by maybe a little.
