Site stats say that the last time this host contacted server was 18 Feb 2007 13:17:44 UTC, but server contact has been successful many times since and always with the same strange reply:
3/29/07 11:43:29 AM|Pirates@Home|Message from server: All Your BOINC are belong to us!
3/29/07 11:43:29 AM|Pirates@Home|Deferring communication for 1 days 0 hr 0 min 0 sec
So now I gotta ask. What's up with that?

That host currently runs 5.8.16, but has run other versions with the same reply.

Clean install of 5.8.16 on the
same host and all is good.
If I install back to original directory I still get from server "All Your BOINC are belong to us!" |

Here is what is happening. When I made some small modifications to the scheduler I gave it a different name, "pirate_scheduler". This is indicated on the project home page both with a <scheduler>... </scheduler> block (the old way) and a <link> tag (the new way). You may recall that the BOS display wasn't getting the Pirates@Home status correct until Bruno changed it to point to the new scheduler, because his software does not yet determine the scheduler from these tags.
But the Client is supposed to know how to find the scheduler this way. Instead, yours seems to be looking just for the default name, cgi-bin/scheduler. That gets it to a perl script which sends back a short xml scheduler reply with the message you have noted. That message also has the project master page in it, which contains the correct scheduler link, so I don't understand how your client gets confused.

It seems PovAddict has found that there is a bug in how the client parses the tag on the main page. This might explain this effect, and it might mean that it will be fixed in a newer client when it comes out.
Anybody else see this?
Perhaps we should try a few variations to see how it's triggered?
Right now the tag comes first, then the block. I wonder if all your BOINC are still belong to us if:
1) I remove the <scheduler> block, leaving just <link>; or
2) I remove the <link>, leaving just the <scheduler>; or
3) I reverse the order, with both present
Predictions?

All My BOINC are belong to me!
Paying closer attention to the captured host I noticed the preferences I set on the web were not obeyed.
Seems troubles were in client_state.xml
<project>
<master_url>http://pirates.spy-hill.net/</master_url>
<project_name>Pirates@Home</project_name>
<symstore></symstore>
<user_name>Contact</user_name>
<team_name>BOINC Synergy</team_name>
<host_venue></host_venue>
I changed <host_venue></host_venue> to <host_venue>work</host_venue> and saved.
After restarting BOINC and hitting Pirates server, back to <host_venue></host_venue> and "All Your BOINC are belong to us!" reply.
Now I check the web and see that host is set to home. So change to work and save. Exit BOINC, again set <host_venue></host_venue> to <host_venue>work</host_venue> and save.
Restart BOINC and still no joy getting <host_venue> defined until I update another project (that I already updated just prior to noticing client_state problem).
I can't reproduce this empty <host_venue> now. Strange.
Last restart looked like this:

If it hadn't your project pirate would be out by himself in the longboat. That date (346 days) has significance, and as such the required version is subject to change. ;)
The current req might be 5.4 but I'm not completely sure on that.
