Just noticed the new round of "Hellos", and thought ... oh maybe I could open another thread.

Are you testing something special, me capt'n?
Anything to care for?

From Pirates' BOINC Developers' Notes:

http://pirates.spy-hill.net/help/hello.html#ReleaseNotes

"hello 5.15 (21 November 2007)
No changes to the application code. Built with BOINC 5.10.30 (/branches/boinc_core_release_5_10/, SVN rev 14266) to test that this branch is still working.

hello 5.14 (21 November 2007)
No changes to the application code, other than to comments. Built with BOINC 6.1.0 SVN head (r14266) just to verify that the newest version of the BOINC code is working."

Just that they are blazingly fast, 5 seconds here. No idea whether they support graphics, I could not start it such short time with BoincView.

The hello application was just always without graphics.

Well..... then apologize my ignorance, please. I've forgot that already .-(
(The hello app was possibly always so fast that I was not noticing it? It takes so little time to write "Hello, Boinc world!" and disappear.)

Is it just me or is the Linux app dramatically slower than the Windows app?

The current Hello WUs take 5 seconds on C2D T7200 @ 2 GHz running Windows XP, and 10.8 seconds on C2D E6600 @ 2,66 GHz running Fedora 7 x86_64. Even my Mobile Celeron @ 1,5 GHz (Windows 2k) is almost as fast as the Linux host.

Looks like it.

Consider this work unit. The hosts are similar in speed with mine being a bit faster. Mine is running Linux (Fedora 7) and the other is running Windows XP. My result took twice as long as the Windows one.
