Looks good on my P4/XP laptop.

Very smooth.

What's changed (besides the image)?

Nothing much, except to make the code consistent so that it builds on both Windows and Linux. The previous version required all sorts of little tweaks to get it to run on Windows.

As for the image, I know we have a new logo, but I thought the old one was best for this use. It took more than I expected to get it to work, so now I have a 4 layer Gimp version of the old logo, if anybody would want it. :-)

There's just something strange about the uploads.

It just said it uploaded 1167 bytes of 331 bytes... Sorry?
(it showed that in the Transfer window only, nothing in the logs.)

I've seen this for a very long time with all/most project uploads through BOINC.
Inflated bytes due to acks & checksums or something like that?

It's pretty choppy on my Fedora box, Eric.

Looking at top shows a substantial chunk of CPU time going to X. I wasn't sure how (or if it's even possible) to get the output of top into a file. But I saw X taking anywhere from 50-70% when the graphics window wasn't maximized and 70-90% when it was.

Whoa! First time I've seen this particular one. Very nice. Thought I saw a Tardis outline in there briefly. Must be a Dr. Who fan coding this one...

BTW-- Windows XP SP2, P4 1.8GHz (not HT), 768MB ram, GeForce FX5950 Ultra VGA on this machine.

I managed to get two WU's running at the same time. The graphics were fairly smooth (much better than last time), even with the graphics windows expanded. After I got them both running and expanded, though, the time to completion clocks slowed to nearly stopped for about a minute and a half. Progress percentage slowed way down to just a few thousandth's of a percent every second or so. After the munute and a half was up, both the clocks and the completion speeded up somewhat. The clocks were only kicking over a second about every 3 to 5 seconds. When the lead WU finally closed, the remaining WU seemed to finish up quite normally. Graphics seemed to run about the same all the way though.

Oh yeah... Arrrr.

I managed to get two at once also, and for a change had a chance to open the graphics. Very cool, definitely reminiscent of Dr Who. I didn't try opening them both at once, but looking at them separately, the motion was reasonably smooth. I didn't notice a slowdown at any point in the run.

Testing on Pentium D, WinXP Media Center, dual core 2.8GHz.

I finally, after missing several WUs in the background, got a look at this one...

I blew it up to full screen, got my headphones and cranked up the volume on an MP3 of the Doctor Who theme.

Nicely done.

Oh yeah, no problems on my end, save one bit of chop which I think was due to something else the computer was doing. Otherwise, looks nice and smooth, even at full screen, on my Athlon 1900+ with 1GB RAM and 128MB GeForce4 4600.

Seems one of my ship lost pace. Suddenly it needs thrice the time it needed before. All pirate wus needed about 230s - 250s up to 597381 now they all need 700s - 830s from 597497 on.
Anybody any ideas?

I finally got the Mac version working, so I'm letting out more work for this run for the Apple fleet.

Hi!
I have a problem with the screensaver.
When the screensaver starts, the graphic chip hangs up.
The computer display shows only the last picture of the saver. Nothing can wake up the computer from the saver.
This means the saver turns off, but on the display there's still the saver picture. I must turn off Windows by pushing the power button because I can't see something of the Windows desktop.

For Information:
Computer: Medion MD96400 (Notebook) AMD Turion 64 ML30 Processor, 512MB RAM
Graphic chip: ATI Radeon XPress 200M with 128MB Video-RAM.
Windows XP Home SP2 (latest Update Version)

Sorry for my english...

So Long!
Sam

A little background: since I upgraded it to BOINC v5.8.x a few months ago this system began t’ get fairly frequent, but sporadic an’ hard-to-reproduce, crashes while runnin’ science apps wit’ graphics—th’ others seemed immune. I kept on upgradin’ as new versions came out but th’ problems continued. A couple o’ weeks ago I disabled th’ screensaver (very reluctantly), ’n th’ crashes stopped occurrin’—but could th’ error reported above be caused by the disabled BOINCsaver?

I be seriously considerin’ revertin’ that craft t’ BOINC v5.4.9, which nigh-on ne’er gave me grief, even if it means doin’ without the new UI features an’ the “secure sandbox”.

Can you interrupt it instead with Ctrl-Alt-Delete, which might be less drastic than rebooting?

I don't have a solution to the problem, but reporting things helps collect data. Thank you.

Sorry about that. I built this version on a Tiger machine, so it is not surprising that it had problems on Panther. I have a G3 runnint Panther, but it seems to be having some problems of it's own - maybe only dust bunnies. I've yet to figure out how to transfer Charlie's build method for backward compatible version from XCode to a Makefile, though I'm sure it's possible.

I'll be interested to see if apps built on Tiger will run correctly on Leopard.

Thanks for the tip, but the CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't work. I think the Task-Manager opens, but I can't see it because the display still shows the saver picture.
The graphic chip continues its operation just after a reset by starting the computer new.

Thanks again!

That may or may not be useful information for sorting it out. Thanks.
