Hi!

I crunched my first work unit - and I got claimed credit of 0.02 - but no pending credit, and no actual credit. Why is that?

Most likely it's because some other host claimed 0.00 credit.
Here is the status of that work unit along with what each host claimed.

And here is a breif overview of how credit is granted. All hosts that crunch a WU successfully before the deadline get the lowest claimed credit for that WU. This is to prevent cheating. A cheat could claim a credit of 12,345.0 but if the other hosts only claim 123.4 then the cheater only gets 123.4. Normally, this isn't such a big problem, but because the WUs for Pirates are so short, the credit is very low and there is a good likely hood that someone's claimed credit will round-off to "0.00".

Well, that makes a lot of sense. But. I looked at the status and the result where 0.00 credit was claimed was an error. So, there are still some things to work out there.

I also have just finished my first wu and I got no credit for it (see Wu# 13657). The other host claimed some 0.19 (and got it), while I claimed 0.35.
I can only imagine 2 possible answers for that, and they would be:
1) I returned the wu after the deadline. If this is the explanation, I wonder why the other host already got credit, when the third one did not even return the wu.
2) I am working on an amd, the other result came from a pentium. this problem was also encounted by the lhc-team and was due to rounding errors.

Now which of the two proposed answers is the right one, or is there another solution for the problem? I am not whining about the 0.19 credits I lost, but I wondered why that might be the case. An when you get out of this pre-beta, what-ever status, there might be some people wondering too. So no whining, but just a question.

I had a similar question a while ago. (see http://pirates.vassar.edu/forum_thread.php?id=36 )
and was told that at that time they were using the "trivial" validator as part of the testing process. Only the first user to return a WU gets credit.

Thanks for that url, it was really helpful and answered my question of why my computer wasn't downloading wu's when they were available
