Got this message in Boinc.

Pirates@Home - 2005-01-27 02:47:04 - Message from server: A new version (4.38) of the BOINC core client is available from this project's web site.

Have checked on Download page and this is for Macs.

I thought Boinc new which OS you were using!

Yes, this is a problem with BOINC. It should only tell you there is a new BOINC to download if it is for your platform.

I reported this to the boinc_dev mailing list, and David Anderson has removed the message entirely for all platforms in future releases.

but for the used platform it would be a helpful message..

Agreed, but this was apparantly easier for him to implement,
and it's likely that people will know when a new client comes out.

HeHe... Yes, just taking it out would indeed be easier to implement. :)

I posted this issue in the Seti@Home Message Boards earlier, because I thought it was a Core Client issue (and rightly so, it appears), but got sent right back ;(

Yes, he he, but there is also a good reason for it. In production
we hope to get everybody to get their BOINC software from the central
BOINC site, and when a new version comes out it should be posted to the news
for all projects. It's even possible for a project to set a minimum version
of the core client, so that old and out of date versions are no longer used.
So taking that message out of the logs is fine and won't cause problems
(knock wood).
