First off I'd like to say that I find this project fun. However, as a Mac user I'm a little annoyed by BOINC's reminder that there is work for other platforms. Any time I see P@H workunits come my way, I suspend everything else to try and download as many workunits as I can (seeing how sparse they are for Macs). So for my wish list, I hope Macs will be allowed a more even distribution of workunits in the future.

There will be work for Macs in the future. There was work for Macs in the last run of 'cube' over the holiday. I develop my applications on Linux, then move them to Windows (and back and forth as I work on them). I've recently learned the proper incantation to build graphical applications on Mac with the proper graphics libraries, which is how the 'cube' version for Mac was produced. Since 'starboard' is a bit more complicated it may take me a while to get it set up for Mac, but I will do so at some point.

If there is work, it is given out to all platforms for which there is a working app version. You can see which app versions are available on the Applications page. Since this is a test site, there will sometimes be work for just one platform. And for Macs we currently give out the PPC version even to Intel Macs, which can run the PPC version in emulation mode.

Thank you for your patience, and welcome to the crew.

So Just as a follow-up, I still haven't seen any Mac workunits after a couple of months. I'm just wondering what's going on. I know PC-types have precidence, but still. Just thought I'd ask.

Pirates isn't really a credit project. We're testing other things, like the Glossary and the forum software, mostly.

At this moment Pirates is giving out work, as far as I know for all platforms supported. You may not have noticed it as they are about 6 seconds long, runtime wise.

Check your computers and see if you have/had anything. The program being tested is Hello 5.10, including one hello_5.10_powerpc-apple-darwin

My G4 at work got a few (tiny) hello WUs a couple of days ago while I wasn’t there; my G5 at home crunched at least one yesterday, probably while I was at the shop, both after weeks of “no work” messages. But there’s been very little work at all recently for any platform (look at everyone’s RAC!) what with the Glossary development & testing going on, so I haven’t felt particularly left out.
