Pirates@Home is again testing a mechanism where accounts can only be created by those who possess the "secret" invitation code. (All previously released invitation codes are valid, so it's not very secret.)

The idea behind this is that a new BOINC project can use it to selectively allow a small set of users to join the project for alpha testing.

In a previous test we found that while the web pages worked correctly, there was a problem with attaching a client to the project. That problem should now be fixed. Now when a client attaches to the project it will accept an e-mail and password for an existing account, but the option to create a new account won't be available.

I'm hoping that some of the crew will test this out to verify that it works on all platforms and all (or at least current) versions of the client. Thanks.

Works as it should. Was able to attach a new host through the manager, while the option for new user was greyed out.

Should have stated... WinXP, BOINC 5.4.9
Also just tried detach/re-attach on Win98 (5.4.9) and all is good.

I'm currently in EDF mode for LHC (well, while they had work :D ), so after BOINC is outa panic mode will go over and try it in Linux... Thus far, it doesn't look like anyone's tested it under that OS. I've got a seperate Linux partition on this HD...

Attached ok, url and password option was default. Account creation not available.

I notice that posting to the message Boards is a bit slow (using Safari) loading.

The code for restricting account creation via invitation codes has been incorporated into the BOINC software distribution (turned off by default, of course).

Thank you to everybody who helped test it.

I believe I fixed that here (actually, you did, eh?) but the .po files did not go into BOINC (yet), except the English version of the invitation code messages.

We have Slovakian, Danish, Polish, Hollish, and Deutsch, but could still use contributions for other languages, if there are volunteers?
