So far, I only got WUs on Intel Celeron 1,5GHz with Windows 2000 and BOINC 6.3.8.

I though perhaps the CPU time was so short it appeared as 0.0, but I checked the database and indeed the CPU time is zero. This is the first app with graphics built with the new API, so there are some differences, and small things like this are exactly what we like to look for. The server daemons are still from BOINC 5, so there could be an incompatibility there. The hello app, though, did report CPU time, so it would have to be something to do with running the new kind of APP. It would help to see if there is a difference between BOINC 5 and BOINC 6 clients. And we will update the server at some point. At least the graphics app is working. Yes, it is. Most of the work required to switch an app over is now done, even though the graphics are not very fancy. Can you confirm that you actually saw the graphics as the screen saver? And with the "Show Graphics" button from the Manager? Thank you very much for the report from the field. ____________ -- Eric Myers "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -- William Butler Yeats

I have loads of zeros as well as Mad Jack Kidd. He had them I guess under 6.3.6. and I had them with 6.2.14

Kalessin wrote: Still interesting: The CPU time is a plain zero but the granted credits are immense gigantic 0,001 Credits. Is this the minimum credit for a finished result or why is this not also a plain zero? Yes, this is the minimum credit, to insure that you get at least a little credit even if the WU claims less than that. We don't want people to be TOO unhappy. :-) ____________ -- Eric Myers "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -- William Butler Yeats

While yello 6 wu is running (on Win98 & XP) the Manager (v5 & v6) displays blank CPU time. Progress stays at 0.000%. To completion time doesn't change. When wu completes, Manager still shows blank CPU time and Progress jumps to 100%. I think Hello 6 showed proper CPU time and progress in the Manager while running. ____________ ![]() Click and enter your name for your BOINC Statistics

Running Boinc 5.8.16 on my old Intel Pentium III Toshiba laptop, I can see the yellow graphic, but the workunit will not process, keep getting the following message:

Seems that WinNT 4.0 is no longer supported. On my WinNT 4.0 SP6 Terminal Server Edition machine I get the following error message: yello_6.01_windows_intelx86.exe - Entry point not found: Version of KERNEL32.dll: 4.0.1381.33384 (Copyright © 1990-1998 Citrix Systems, Inc.) Maybe the new compilers are no longer aware of old OSes. Do I have to detach this machine or will you try to fix this? ____________ ![]() ![]()

It turns out my proposed fix didn't work. So it's back to the drawing board. Hopefully this will clear up when I get the app built correctly. If you don't mind staying attached to the project, I think it would be very useful for you to help make sure that we get it right even for older OSes. The point of yello is to have the minimal graphics app which runs and works. So I took out some things that are in more complicated examples. It may be that I need to put a bit more in to get it to work properly. More testing in the works... ____________ -- Eric Myers "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -- William Butler Yeats

OK, then I will reattach the WinNT4 machine to see what comes up. I only guessed that it was a compiler issue cause I had the same probs on some other projects and there it was definitely the case, as they told me. They used procedures that were not supported by WinNT4.

Today I received a hello 6.01 WU on my NT 4.0 machine and it crashed with the same error like the yello WU I reported the other day. Most annoying is the fact that it's blocking the machine until you click the OK button of the message box!

Hello? Anyone out there? OK, my last post was about "hello" and not "yello", but I think it is the same problem, isn't it?

We stopped the yello run, and we've been slowly letting out work for a new hello for a while now. Any problems with that? At some point I'll try again to build a working yello. I hope you'll be willing to help test it when the time comes. Thanks for you help and comments.

I've not noticed any problems with either yello 6.01 or hello 6.01+6.02 on my Windows + Linux fleet. At some point I'll try again to build a working yello. A fake-yello? ,-) I hope you'll be willing to help test it when the time comes. Sure, anytimes. And the more pirate graphics, the better! ____________ Peter .-) ![]()

I hope you'll be willing to help test it when the time comes. Thanks for you help and comments. As I posted here a while ago, the hello 6.01 app seems to show the same error on WinNT 4.0 as the yello 6.01 app did. But don't worry about that. As WinNT 4.0 is a dying breed, I decided to detach this machine from all projects not longer supporting this OS. When the x-mas hype is over and the CPU prices are hopefully decreasing again, I will build a new Q9550 Server 2003 crunching machine that will replace two of my oldest boxes. ____________ ![]() ![]()
