No, actually not for ages (more exactly, for many many months, except 3-4 lines in last week - just registered to BOINC wiki). And I've maybe never ever used ** in wikis and trac yet, just ''''s and }'s and /'s and []'s similar.

I've been using Twiki, where *stuff* puts it in bold face, and =stuff= puts in in monospace (tt type). That's easier than MediaWiki, where I forget if it's two or three single quotes for bold (I think it's 3, and 5 if you want slanted bold), and there is no short-cut (that I know of) for monospace, except for in a code example.
