Pirates@Home is now switching over from the stable branch of the software (known as boinc_public, currently version 4.13) to the development branch, currently version 4.53. This will let us test the latest and greatest software, and in particular it will let us work toward a screensaver for Linux.

As many of you already know, the cutting edge is the bleeding edge, so you may see more compute errors, failrues, or problems in general. That\'s a part of what we are doing, and we thank you for letting us use your computers for our testing.

Eric, we truly appreciate all of this efforts and information, as well as we understand the idea of the Pirates@home purpose of just creating a screensaver for E@H. Now that E@H is working on its alpha fase I have one big question.

Doesn't it sound more adecuate, to let those guys in the alpha test continue, but give us here in Pirates, the chance to become all of us beta testers for E@H and not have to go thru all the procedures of getting a new mile-long code to identify our new account?

Then, as you say in the front page, if we are just having fun, then lets continue having fun and give us something else to work on, while we wait for a new BOINC project to be added to our now endless list of projects. Even if it is repeated units!!

Or should we just deattach from Pirates?

Beta testers for Einstein@Home will be selected from the APS list, which is why I've been encouraging people to sign up with them. You'll have to get your new account and accountID that way, as they are separate projects, with separate credit.

That's your choice. We're not shutting Pirates down, and hopefully it will still be useful for testing things before they go into production, but we'll be putting our main efforts in the immediate future into the commissioning of Einstein@Home and then production.

Thanks again Eric, your prompt reply has made clear many other things. I just hope that the files in APS list do not get mixed up as I have signed up there six different times in the last 5 months ;-)

And of course I will continue in the Pirates to be of any assistance possible.

Can't wait for 'Pause Project' option. Would come in real handy here!

I'd like to have been invited to continue helping the test of E@H as well. I've signed up a few times from the APS page (first time back in August / Sept.) but haven't heard a thing.

If you're still looking for testers, I've got P2 Celeron, P3, P4 mobile, P4 HT, AMD 900mhz / 1200mhz, WinXP, Win2k, Win98, and linux systems for testing if you need a specific platform.

I've been a part of some of the other Alpha / Beta projects such as LHC Alpha and Beta, the closed CPDN beta, here, and Seti Beta. If you need me, just send me an e-mail to the address in my profile here.

Even with just one single Pentium 4 WinXP Pro 2.66GHz I could be of assistance as well, specially noticing that by now there are more than 450 registered users in E@H

Don't despair. We are adding new users slowly, by invitation
rather than opening it up to new subscriptions as LHC@home did.
But I think the plan is to invite everybody on the APS list before
opening the project up to the public. (I can't say that for sure because
I am not the one taking care of that part of the operation.)

I wouldn't say that for sure. Alpha / Beta testing is about getting all of the unique combination of systems to test the applications, not about getting the actual work crunched fast. If there's several 2.6 systems running XP already then they won't be looking for more. They'll be looking for the XP on P2, Win98 on 2.6 ghz, etc.

Yes Ticker you are correct! I'll just wait. But just to leave it clear, I am no cruncher just for the sake of it. Helping the projects is my main objective.

Even one small grain of sand will help to form a rock

Again, you are right, no hurt feelings!
