After using the wiki for a while I like how easy it is to make links. So I've added that syntax to the discussion forums. The idea is you type [ http://host.domain.com text of link] and it makes a link to the URL (no spaces allowed) with the text of the link everything after the URL until the closing bracket. Easy.

(I put a space after the opening [ so it wouldn't get turned into a link. Here's a working example: [http://earth.google.com Google Earth])

Talk about confusion.

No spaces allowed... yet between the link and the text there is a space!

Okay, good point. The URL cannot have any spaces. I put a space before the URL so it would not be turned into a link. You can have spaces afterwards, up to the closing bracket.

So what's that square bracket still doing in front of the link?

Last week or so I added a help page to the wiki called the "Wiki quickie", because it summarizes how you can edit wiki pages.

I've just added to that page some brief instructions on how to make links, both within the wiki and to an external URL.

And as already mentioned in this thread, this works in the discussion threads as well.
