Interesting. Thanks. It may be that you are actually logged in but the page doesn't really show it. I find MediaWiki is very aggressive about caching pages (on the server, not the browser). So if you jump from that first page where you don't appear to be logged in to any other page (random page link works well for this) then does it later show that you are logged in?

When going through any of the links above to the Test page, I am logged out. Using the Search in the Glossary I go to the Wench page, I am logged in. Using the Search in the Glossary to return to the Test page, I am logged in. Closing Mozilla, restarting it (without clearing cache this time). I am testing cookies. going from the link in the Pirates forums to the test page, I get one cookie sent. that cookie is then modified. um, 4 times and then I get to the site, logged in going to the link directly, I get no cookie warnings going through the Pirates forums, I get cookie warnings cache cleared... cookies cleared... going from link shows me logged out ____________ Jord.
