Those members of the Crew who do not have a team on Einstein@Home are welcome to join the Pirates@Home team there.

If ye don't have an invite to Einstein@Home yet but you signed up with the APS then you should be getting one shortly. We are adding users a batch at a time, seeing that all is well, then adding more, in the order in which people signed up. There are about 18,000 names on the list, and we don't want to add them all at once. Everybody should get an invite in due time. After that, at some point yet to be determined, Einstein@Home will open for anyone to join.

Arghhh! Argv! Argc!

Congratulations to those on the Pirates@Home team on Einstein@Home. The team has just passed Einstein@UWM in total credit. That be the Admiral's team, so well done lads. Well done, and steady on.

To those Pirates not yet on Einstein@Home: the official opening for public account creation will be announced this weekend, but the site is actually open for account creation now if you want to join the party. And if you don't already have a team (or even if you do...) you're welcome to join the Pirates@Home team.

Last night the Pirates team passed the RAC mark of the team for the LIGO scientists at Caltech. Good work! If we add more sail we might be ablet to get onto the first page for total credit. In any case, well done lads, and steady on course!

Are you thinking of creating a Pirates@Home team at LHC? They re-opened to the public Friday.

Right now, their hardware is ovewhelmed, but when things settle down...

They were, but re-opened yesterday. The Project home page says that even on the new hardware, they can't keep up, and basically wait for things to settle down before complaining

No hardware is fast enough... Expect slow response times and timeouts until the first shockwave of incoming work requests has settled.

I thought you were on about Einstien. That what happens when you assume what you read, instead of actually reading it.

Just been to LCH, looks like they have problem on front page, that will be why the creation of teams is dead.

Ah well the thought was there. (even if my brain cells were'nt.)

We need to set more sail over on Einstein@Home. If you check the recent average credit you will see that we are in hot pursuit by the US Navy!

now that 'tis funny! they'll ne'er catch us wily pirates!

on a serious note though - on my 4 machines that run einstein, all of them restart each WU numerous times. my completion times look on par with the results there, but haven't really taken the time to watch a WU for the full 6-12 hrs to research it. I did adjust time to switch between applications to 9 hrs to cover what should be a full runtime on 3 of those systems, but it does still error out at 'random' times. It does not go back to the beginning, just an hour or 2 back; and i can't recall the error off the top of my head (though i think it is something like exited with no finished file).

any ideas?
and i need a team over at Protein, any interest in a Pirate team there?

Micah

It seems there is a bug in the BOINC project web pages which allows one to put HTML in the team name. I've done this for the Pirates team on Einstein@Home as a demonstration of the problem. As a result, you may see the full team name with HTML on your screen. I've reported the bug and will change the name back once it's been verified.

Pirates at home is shown on position 30, but see the one in position 10 and that is also using word art letters on the team title.

That is also an example, but it was changing every day or two so we created another just to be sure there was one to show off the bug.

With the use of a test-forum AthlonRob set up, we have managed to kill this bug. There were a lot more bugs in the team-database. But HTML addage (both link and picture in the name tag) is now rooted out and will probably be added to the CVS on Monday.

I saw the patch go in to CVS. There have been a lot of changes to BOINC since the last upgrade, so we are probably going to upgrade Pirates again soon.

I'm not sure if that's really a bug related to the input form action.

It's a frontend issue to show the contents in TEAM->name as HTML code instead of rendering it.

BoincStats does the right thing, it encodes the characters from TEAM->name with htmlentities() or a related function. So the list shows the HTML source that those weirdos have put into the name field of the team form.

This is sure not what those bilg rats planned to achieve but it's what they deserve.

Before someone gets the idea to insert a 1GB picture that's 2048x2048 pixels or bigger (I tried it on the test-forums, it worked and totally screwed up the stats as you can imagine ;) I have later edited the picture to a more sizeable one), it was better to plug that hole. All it said on the side was something like "please don't put HTML tags in the name tag"... yep, that'll defer people from doing it. ;)

What I mean is: if web pages do not render the HTML but display it as HTML source code (i.e. text), that will sure stop people from doing it. The OffTopic team entry looks really crappy on BoincStats, no "fancy" image, just HTML-source.

So the fix should not be in the input form action but on the team list pages, just as it is done on BoincStats.
