The database server crashed last night because the log files filled up the disk partition.

(Note to self and other projects: don't put the log files on the same partition as the database tables!)

It seems the reason the log files are filling up so quickly is that we are getting constant connections from one (or a few machines) from a particular IP address. This is in some sense a denial of service attack, as it will fill up the logs and crash the system again if it goes unchecked.

This is coming from a well known member of the crew, who we hope will now stop the barage.

It might actually be that this is unintentional. I've had the same problem where the permissions of the working directory (C:\Program Files\BOINC on Windows) were changed and the CC could no longer write to that directory. This triggered repeated connections every few seconds and created a new host for each connection. But the latest CC handles that case better (it simply exits after 2 tries to write the file) and we see no evidence of the multiple hosts being created.

You sure it's not the stapler left on the numpad's Enter key? ;)

Arrr, the entire project brought down by the old stapler on the Enter key vulnerabilty. That would be a problem... :-)
