It seems that outbound e-mail from Pirates@Home started backing up around Wed. July 11th, probably because of a change in DNS configuration by our ISP. I have now corrected the problem (and switched to different nameservers), so e-mail should again be working for verifying addresses, forum thread subscriptions, and notification of Pirate of the Day.

While outbound e-mail is mainly working, it seems we now have problems with some domains which are strict about mail relays (which is understandable). This includes hotmail, and we currently cannot send to CERN. We also had problems with gmx.de and freenet.de; I don't know yet if my attempts to fix that were successful.

If you have problems verifying your e-mail address or changing your e-mail to a new address then perhaps you could record the domain name(s) here to help map out the problem. Only if you feel comfortable revealing such information. Thanks.

The overall best way to fix this is to set up an authenticated SMTP connection to either my ISP or some other mailer which would trust this site (like Google), but so far I've not figured out all the details of making that work.

Sorry for the inconvenience. One hopes, as always, that the experience can help future BOINC projects.

The problem with e-mail turns out to have been worse than I thought. All outbound e-mail was being dropped for the past day or two.

That's fixed, and I've specifically checked that e-mail to hotmail works again.
