Sextant 4.67 is a test of project preferences.

If you go to your account preferences and set "static graphics" to "no" then the static parts of the screensaver (bitmaps and text) will not be displayed. This feature is provided for older screens to prevent burn-in, but it's also the first test of the preferences system.

I noticed there was an undocumented key in sextant 4.66 and it's on 4.67 too.

Ctrl + G turns on/off a wireframe globe.

Gotta have something hidden to see if your eagle eyes are still working.

What about the static graphics preferences? Has anybody tried it
to verify it works (besides me, of course)?

Yep, only cosmos and animated logo displays when 'no' selected.

Looks as if all Ctrl functions are working properly in sextant 4.67, but I did notice that if you Turn off the banner using Ctrl B, Ctrl 0 does not turn it back on, though it does reset everything else.

I also noticed that on the screen saver, the Host credit is showing 0.00, the total credit does match what's on my Boinc screen.

Seems to be working fine. First two WU's had the banners, I changed the preference and the next two didn't have the banner. I switched it back, and the banner is back on again.

Good catch. And Ctrl 0 should not just turn it on, it should set it to the
current user preferences. I've added that to the next version.

I have seen this before, and not on just this project. I'm not sure, but it may
be due to the version of the client you are running, or it may be that the host
has a new hostid which needs to be merged with the old one.

Had this too, but in those cases, the "Host Credit" was set to "0000" in the client_state.xml and therefore in the in the GUI also showed as "0000"

Can also happen with new attached clients, until first successfully connect to the scheduler?

-->
When viewing the rotating sphere do following:

ctrl arrow-up, the sphere starts to scroll "backwards". Keep the ctrl arrow-up pressed.
After a while, the sphare will change the direction and scroll forward

It look like, localy scheduler function have been used?

Running cc 4.19, I'm only running 2 hosts on Pirates, and I haven't had to merge any hosts on any other project in about 2 months, I only have 5 hosts :-(

Problem may originate from sched_reply_pirates.vassar.edu.xml
If last Project update hit live server with WU ready to send, info was written properly to this file.
Seems if reply is 'No work available' host credit is reset to 0.000000

Thats enough! even to much..
But you have fast ones:)

Interesting Contact (hi!)

perhaps wrong, but the content of your mentioned sched_reply_pirates.vassar.edu.xml
is only a external log, not a "configuration file"
nomaly this file can be deleted without creating a problem.

Hm. other boinc (sever) part have been upgraded recently. this could result in "more" entries in the files.

I think this may be the problem, and I think also that corrections for it have already been applied to the 4.6x "development" branch, so the problem should go away when we switch to that. Or has anybody who is trying that version of the client seen this problem recently?

The ability to be stupid is not given to everybody.

I worked hard too, to get this level.

Anyway, a minimum level of stupidity must be given for doing DC like boinc.

Not believing me? So talk to your parents or good friends, what *we*
are doing here, they will urge you to take medication and visit a doc ASAP.

I also wanted to mention that I am running Boinc V4.62. I do not see any graphics at all. I think this is an issue with BOINC rather than Pirates because I don't see any graphics on any of the projects that I am running. I have my default screen saver set to "blank". Every once in a while, though I do like to go into the BOinc manager and click on "show graphics" just to see what is going on inside my computer.

using also 2 other pirates host, m$ Client 4.60, with the show grafic, both are running the grafic well.

an other host using 4.62 (no work from pirate, but from Einstein), is showing the grafic in a "correct" way too.

Those alpha version needes a special attention. Is "show graphics" possible for other projects? if NOT, it could be a thingy of DLLs or local installation

I tried the static preference, it worked fine.

To get graphics with CCv4.62 running as a service you have to change to use the local system account and allow interaction with the desktop.

During night time, while Eagle Eye was asleep a sextant unit came in, was reported back on due time - got credits for it - but... I was unable to see a darn thing about it. Bad luck for me!

Thanks for sending some work - Patience will continue - Let's get some more.

Aarrrgghhhhhh! I'm mad, would have liked to see the screensaver work!

It's a team work, Eagle Eye, please have a heathy sleep, while other mates are doing the job for you (and for the departement of pirate).

might be already fixed:

4.67 Compass WU
===============

in the client_state file, the host credit are there.

In the grafical view, the total credits are shown, but as mentioned above by brave mates, the host credit is "0.00".

The same for WUs labeled wu_1107105..

In the host queue, some 4.68 are waiting, have to wait until the will be done.

//I have seen this before, and not on just this project. I'm not sure, but it may
be due to the version of the client you are running, or it may be that the host
has a new hostid which needs to be merged with the old one.

-Eric Myers//

I just noticed that with Einstein 4.72 (cc4.19), it does show the host credit, but it is not up to date, it looks like it is showing the total & host credit at the time of download. When I get home I'll check my faster box to see how it looks there.

Did you change something else in the code since you created what Einstein is currently using?

== Update ==
This same WU from Einstein just restarted, this time the total & Host credit are correct. So whatever it was that you had set up in Einstein 4.72 was working correctly. Just not working now in Sextant 4.67 or 4.68.

my main PC got over 400 work units over the weekend. i was able to suspend my other projects, but still only got halfway through before the deadline ran out.
I reset the project after that since at 15min apiece (running 2 a time on HT) there was still at LOT of time left to run.
my preferences are set to 0.5days, not sure why that one system got so many.
one other system got close to 200, my other 6 got nothing.
i've picked up some more on those systems now.

just thought someone should know. possibly there was something odd that caused that many to go to one system.
my resources are set to 1000 for pirates, 1 for CPDN and E@H, 2 for seti.

Also, thank you for posting that graphic for me. I ran a butt load of those WU's but until now was unable to see the graphics.

Well no wonder karthwyne nobody else got almost anything, if you got the most of the units that were being sent out!
Having your resources set to a 1000 for Pirates and 1 for CPDN and E@H plus 2 for SETI just comes to show that you only want to be a tester for Pirates.
Might as well just put the pirates project on your PC and nothing else!
That is a nice way to help the developers but you are not helping the other projects science. Please no offense at all, is just a comment!

Let's hope that Eric can extend the limit return date for at least 24 hours so the others might get some units now and then.

Actually, this only ensure that when there is Pirates work to do, your client will get some of it. The rest (most) of the time the client will run 50% for SETI, and 25% for both CPDN and Einstein.

Yes, kolch, that I do understand, however if pirates only has 7 or 8 hundred units to send out, and this cPU receives

my main PC got over 400 work units over the weekend
then there is not much juice left for others.

I repeat, it is just a comment, no hurt feelings, not angry, but this should be more equitative. By the way, I do not intend to switch my preferences on any`project. Have a nice day!

Liberto, I think kolch is talking about the blast of workunits that there was a few days ago. There were around 13000 units released in a matter of minutes! Anyone who connected to pirates at that brief time got it's boinc filled with hundreds of workunits. I myself got some 300 too. A phenomena never seen before and probably we will never see it again.
Read this topic about it.

no offense taken, but when i got the units, my prefs were 20 for pirates, 5 for CPDN, 7 for E@H, and 10 for SETI.
one of my slower PCs got 200 work units, while my 7 others got none.
i am thankful for getting the work, but agree that it could have been shared out so as the work units didn't have to be resent (which they all have already).
i've got one system that has yet to get a single pirates WU (only does pirates and seti).

my post was placed in this thread as it seemed to be something that Eric might want to look at (or not, i know that he has a ton on his plate)

at any rate, i'm impressed with all the new versions that Eric has been putting out!

Thats it. The cap'n called it unexpected behavior, most would simply call it an error, but i'll take the cap'ns word on it.

That's just my sheer bad luck!! Well, no problem guys I am quite sure that some other day I will be the one to get things and others will not.

That's the way the cookie crumbles!

I'll just get my weapons ready for the next big fight!! Don't leave me out Eric! Ho-ho-ho, very close to 68 now - just a few more days and there we go.

I have my Pirates resource share set high in order to force the scheduler to get around to the Pirates WUs before they expire. Before I did this, all of the pirates WUs would expire before they started (deadlines were way too short). However, I have my queue set to 0.1 days, so that not too much work was downloaded.
